A Baby Is Coming…

Ok, a new baby is coming. We’re gonna need to get some stuff ready, right? Let’s see, where to start… where to start? I know, let’s dig out the baby shower gifts.

Bottles, check. Breast pump, check.

Fold up baby jail, check. Baby bath tub, check.

Ridiculous looking chest harness for carrying baby, check. These things are apparently all the rage. I’ve so got this.

Diapers? Yes, we’re going to need diapers, and a changing station. Searched the patio furniture, found a perfect sized table, moved it into the hallway, check.

<Open question – what is Butt Paste? >

We’re ready for this thing to go down. We have the hospital bag packed, and the apartment is baby ready.

Our doctor recommended that we see the two room options for delivery, so we headed back to the hospital to scope it out. I was surprised that the hospital only has two rooms where a girl can give birth. What happens if there are 3 girls delivering at the same time? Hmmm, best not to ask too many questions.

This was option #1. When Stevie walked in I saw the color run out of her face. I actually didn’t think it looked that bad. Sure, it’s a little medieval, but there was lots of natural light and they made good use of negative space.

Anyway, Stevie was a lot happier when she saw the second option. We’ll use this room because she’ll be able to deliver on an adjustable bed, and there were no cold, stainless steel metal stirrups meant to keep her bound to a flat-backed torture table.

So that about wraps up all the prep work. At this point we’re just waiting. And I don’t think we’ll be waiting long.

The other day when I looked at Stevie’s belly I couldn’t believe how big it was. I never would have imagined her belly would be so perfectly big and round! I told her that we should document the final days with a professional photo shoot. Our good friend Richard already took some incredible photos back in August (remember that shoot here), but she is much bigger now! So we found a photographer and did another shoot. Stay tuned for the final photos in a future blog post!

Wow. I just realized that we passed our three year anniversary of Sprinter Life. Three years and three days ago Stevie was laid off her job in LA. I talked her into giving up the apartment on the beach. She sold and gave away most of her belongings and moved into the van with me. We haven’t looked back since!

Viva Sprinter Life!

So exciting! We love our baby ergo carrier (funny front baby backpack thing) Eli is 15 months and I still rock that thing all the time! Sending thoughts of strength and a happy and healthy delivery!

    • Yeah, I’m sure we’re gonna love that thing. Just feels goofy walking around the house wearing it with a stuffed animal. 🙂

  2. Oh my Gosh, flash me back 13 yrs! I used to be able to quote every word in the Dr. Suess ABC book! Such awesome years are right around the corner!! So excited for you! Kathy

  3. Glad you got the right gear.. you know that can be a deal breaker. We had a baby bjorn, and that thing went in the trashcan right after the severe backache that was a result of the product. Ergos are great, but look into some baby wraps.. those things are really cool. I was lucky (unlucky) that both my kids were late. The first one I was so freaked out, running all over the house, worrying about delivery in the cars, etc. After 20 hours at the hospital it changed my views. The second time I took my sweet time. I think I even brewed up some coffee for the 45 min drive to the hospital. And yes.. 20 hours later Thor finally came into this world. Keep us posted, too bad you don’t have a cell phone to give us ongoing updates. Do you guys still have a Doula? That was a great addition to delivery day, and really made things feel manageable.
    Cheers- Tim

    • Hey bro, yeah, we still have the Doula. Our plan is to stay at the house as long as possible. We’re not in any hurry. We’re 30 minutes from the hospital, but if there is traffic it will take 2 hours, so that is the only variable we’re tracking.

    Ohh Stevie,
You look spool beautiful. We are so excited for you. I know Angela will be arriving soon and then your little beautiful bundle. We will be thinking of you. I hope you have a Libra baby. We are all so balanced. Haha! Love you lots

    • yep, Mom arrives tomorrow morning at 9am! We can’t wait. So excited that she is going to be here for the birth.

      love you guys!

  7. Aunt Debby says:

Oops ( the crazy spell correction on the iPad) I mention so beautiful, but you are round like a spool.

  8. I knew you would want that! 😀

Don’t worry. If you focus on having the natural birth you want all you really need is Tree and a labor ball anyway. Plus, it’s vital that you don’t lay in bed-walk around and squat a lot! It speeds things up and feels pretty good in between contractions. If you have a doula, mention that you want the ‘double hip squeeze’ during transition contractions. My natural birth couldn’t have been any better- the double hip squeeze is a life-saver! My doula even taught my husband to do the squeeze :). The nurses all said they wish they could get me on film- “no one would be afraid to give birth naturally if they saw you.” You’re going to be fine! It’s awesome.

  10. Its gonna be great…can’t wait to see the newest member of the pack
